Microsoft says Copilot now takes UCP-ready feeds. Do I need to build one for my Shopify store?
Microsoft made UCP-ready feeds in Merchant Center generally available in the US on April 21, 2026. Shopify merchants are enrolled automatically.
- When this applies
- A vendor, an agency, or a headline tells you that Copilot now needs a UCP-ready feed in Microsoft Merchant Center, and offers to build or maintain one for your store. [1] [2]
- When this does not apply
- Take no feed action for a store hosted on Shopify. Microsoft states that Shopify merchants have been automatically enrolled with controls in Shopify admin and that no additional onboarding steps are required. [2] [3]
- Why this matters
- The April 21, 2026 change is a route for merchants who run their own Merchant Center feed. It does not add a step for a Shopify store, whose Copilot route is Shopify Catalog with US-only direct checkout and no Microsoft fee. [1] [3]
- What to do, or not do
- Confirm the Microsoft Copilot channel's Catalog access and direct checkout state in Sales channels, Agentic. Decline a UCP feed build for a hosted Shopify store. If you also run your own Merchant Center feed for Microsoft Advertising, read Microsoft's attribute list before touching it. [3] [2]
- What you'll see when it's done
- You can state the Copilot channel's setting in your admin, and any separate Merchant Center feed you own has a written decision about the UCP attributes Microsoft lists. [3] [2]
- What this result does not prove
- Enrollment proves the route exists. It does not prove that Copilot showed your product, that a US buyer saw the direct checkout, or that anything sold; Microsoft gives no timeline for other regions. [2]

When a third party is worth paying for, and what you do not have to buy
- When paid help is worth it
- Paid help is worth it only when you maintain your own Merchant Center feed for Microsoft Advertising and need the UCP attributes such as checkout eligibility, warnings, and a unique merchant item ID added correctly. [2]
On April 21, 2026, Microsoft Advertising made UCP-ready feeds in Microsoft Merchant Center generally available in the United States. The announcement reads like a to-do item for every merchant. For a store on Shopify it is not one, and Microsoft says so on its own page.
What Microsoft changed
Microsoft’s April 21 post states that support for UCP-ready feeds in Microsoft Merchant Center is generally available to everyone in the US, to help businesses improve product visibility and streamline how catalogs surface in Copilot with structured data. It describes Copilot Checkout as keeping the merchant as merchant of record, expanding catalog data to more than five hundred thousand merchants, and reaching Copilot’s mobile apps, and it names Target’s loyalty account linking as an example.
Microsoft’s agentic commerce page states the mechanics. UCP is a complementary layer to Merchant Center feeds: feeds enable discovery, UCP enables transactions such as checkout and post-purchase actions inside Copilot. A merchant who runs their own feed updates it with the attributes UCP needs, including native checkout eligibility per product, product warnings where needed, and a unique merchant item ID. Copilot Checkout is limited to English-language merchants selling to US buyers in USD, the merchant stays merchant of record, and Microsoft takes no commission or affiliate fee. Microsoft gives no timeline for other regions.
What Microsoft states about Shopify stores
The same page states that Shopify merchants have been automatically enrolled, with controls in Shopify admin, and that no additional onboarding steps are required.
Shopify’s Microsoft Copilot page is the store-side half. The store must sell to US customers, products must be eligible for Shopify Catalog, the supplemental terms must be accepted, and the three policies must be complete. Direct checkout displays only to customers in the United States and is active by default for eligible stores. There are no fees beyond standard payment processing. Turning off Catalog access for the channel takes up to seven days to stop sharing and does not affect other Catalog uses such as Shop.
So the route for a Shopify store is Shopify Catalog, managed in Sales channels, Agentic. A UCP-ready feed is the route for a merchant who runs their own Merchant Center feed.
What to do
- Open Sales channels, then Agentic, and read the Microsoft Copilot channel’s Catalog access and direct checkout state.
- Decline any offer to build a UCP-ready feed for a hosted Shopify store. Microsoft’s own page states the store is enrolled.
- If you separately maintain a Merchant Center feed for Microsoft Advertising, read Microsoft’s attribute list and decide whether to add the UCP attributes to that feed. That is a decision about your advertising feed, not about the Shopify channel.
The observable result is a written channel state and, where you own a feed, a written decision on its attributes. It does not prove that Copilot showed your product, that a US buyer saw direct checkout, or that anything sold.
