## When this applies

You need to keep, remove, or diagnose a product's Shopify Catalog route to ChatGPT separately from its public-web route. [1][2][3]

## When this does not apply

You are trying to guarantee placement in a ChatGPT result, or the product is B2B-only and excluded from agentic storefronts. [1][2][3]

## Why this matters

A product can appear in a ChatGPT web answer and miss a shopping result, or the reverse, because Shopify Catalog and public-web discovery are separate routes. [1][2][3]

## What to do

Choose whether to keep both routes, stop ChatGPT Catalog sharing while keeping the public page, or hide the product from both. [1][2]

## When you’re done

You can name the intended route state and observe matching Shopify Catalog access and signed-out public-page visibility. [1][2][3]

## What this cannot prove

Those checks do not guarantee placement in a ChatGPT result or prove that every downstream copy has already been removed. [1][3]

## Steps

1. Choose one intent: keep both routes, leave Shopify Catalog while keeping the public page, or hide the product from both routes. [1][2]
2. Open Sales channels > Agentic > ChatGPT and observe whether Shopify Catalog access matches that intent before changing anything. [1]
3. Open the product URL in a signed-out window and observe whether the page and the facts you expect ChatGPT Search to find are public. [2][3]
4. Save the chosen Catalog access state, or set the product to Unlisted when both routes must be hidden, then confirm the saved Admin state and public URL behavior. [2]

- Official page: [Shopify Admin Agentic](https://admin.shopify.com/apps/agentic)
- How to get there: Shopify admin > Sales channels > Agentic
- Before you act: The Agentic page shows Allow Shopify to manage for me, the ChatGPT channel, and its Shopify Catalog access control.
- When to stop: Take no action when an eligible store should remain discoverable and its product and policy data are accurate. Stop before changing visibility when you have not chosen whether the public URL should remain reachable. [1][3]

## Paid help and free options

- When paid help makes sense: Paid help is worth it only when a catalog-wide product-data problem needs someone to fix it, and no provider can promise placement in a ChatGPT result. [2][3]
- What’s already free: Both checks happen in Shopify Admin and a signed-out browser window, so neither route needs a visibility app to inspect it. [1][2]

**Check Catalog and public pages separately.** ChatGPT shopping results can use Shopify Catalog; web answers can use crawled storefront pages. Success on one route does not establish the other.

## 1. Choose the intended result

Keep both routes, remove ChatGPT Catalog access while keeping public pages, or hide the product from both. Stop before changing visibility if you have not decided whether the public URL should remain reachable.

## 2. Check Catalog and public data

For ChatGPT's Shopify route, confirm US sales, Catalog eligibility, and completed policies. No separate ChatGPT feed is needed. Check active status, market availability, variant prices, inventory, images, and product facts. Complete shipping, returns, privacy, and terms; put required legal disclosures within the first 6,000 description characters.

OpenAI considers query, context, structured metadata, availability, price, quality, and primary-seller status. Eligibility guarantees no placement.

Signed out, open the public product page. Check its title, description, consistent identifiers, policies, and related links. Public crawling may support a web answer without a shopping card; Catalog may support shopping without a storefront citation.

## 3. Use the matching control

Open **Shopify admin > Sales channels > Agentic**. Confirm **Allow Shopify to manage for me**, **ChatGPT**, and **Shopify Catalog access** are present.

- **Keep both:** leave accurate, eligible records and pages unchanged.
- **Remove ChatGPT Catalog sharing only:** turn off Allow Shopify to manage for me, open ChatGPT, turn off Catalog access, and Save. Sharing may take up to seven days to stop; independent crawling can continue.
- **Hide from both discovery routes:** in Products, select the product, open the actions menu, and choose **Unlist products**. This removes it from Catalog, sitemaps, search engines, and Shopify storefront search.

Confirm the saved Admin state and signed-out URL behavior. These observations prove no guaranteed appearance or complete removal of prior downstream references.

## Common questions

### What are the two routes for a Shopify product in ChatGPT?

Shopify Catalog supplies structured product data for shopping results. Storefront crawling supplies pages that ChatGPT Search may use in web answers. [2][3]

### Do eligible Shopify stores need to enable ChatGPT discovery?

No. Shopify says ChatGPT product discovery is active by default for eligible stores and requires no additional action. [1]

### Does blocking Shopify Catalog hide a product from every AI answer?

No. Shopify says opting out of Catalog does not prevent an AI service from crawling a public storefront. A product must be unlisted to be removed from storefront search, sitemaps, and public discovery paths. [2]
