# My buyers are in Taiwan. Which AI channels can reach them through Shopify?

> Check discovery, sharing, checkout, and ads separately. A channel setting does not prove Taiwan buyers can see or buy your products.

## When this applies

Your buyers are in Taiwan, and an agency, app, or agent offers to place your store in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, or Meta. [1][2]

## When this does not apply

You have already checked discovery, direct checkout and any shoppable ads separately, and need to troubleshoot one specific channel setting. [4][5]

## Why this matters

Google discovery uses Merchant Center; ChatGPT, Copilot, and Meta use Shopify Catalog. ChatGPT eligibility requires US sales. Google and Copilot direct checkout have US requirements; Meta covers the United States, Canada, or Mexico. None guarantees Taiwan visibility. [2][3][4][5]

## What to do

Record discovery, Catalog sharing, and direct checkout separately in Agentic. Check Google discovery in Merchant Center and Meta syncing for shoppable ads. Do not assume US expansion is a discovery requirement. [2][3][4][5][7][6]

## When you’re done

Keep a dated record of discovery routes, Catalog sharing, direct checkout eligibility, and shoppable-ad requirements. Mark Taiwan visibility unverified unless observed. [2][3][4][5][7][6]

## What this cannot prove

Catalog sharing, feed availability and checkout eligibility do not prove that a Taiwan buyer sees a product, can buy it, or generates a sale. These pages do not establish universal Taiwan availability; the Shop section also supplies no buyer-location rule. [2][3][4][5][7][6]

## Paid help and free options

- When paid help makes sense: Pay for help with a specific Merchant Center feed or channel configuration problem you cannot resolve yourself. Define the deliverable first. Buying AI channel access cannot waive eligibility or guarantee Taiwan visibility; expansion into US sales is a separate business decision. [3][1]
- What’s already free: You do not have to buy an app for this. Sales channels > Agentic in your Shopify admin shows the available channels and their status, every Shopify store already serves /agents.md, and products published to your online store are discoverable on Shop through Shopify Catalog. [6][7]

**Check product discovery and checkout separately.** A US checkout restriction does not close every discovery route or establish what a Taiwan buyer sees.

Shopify's [channel overview](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts) says eligible stores are activated by default. Before paying for access, check the route and requirements:

| Channel | Where products come from | Checkout conditions |
|---|---|---|
| [ChatGPT](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts/chatgpt) | Shopify Catalog. Requires US sales, eligible products, terms, and policies; the store can be outside the US. | Buyers use your store checkout. No ChatGPT direct checkout switch. |
| [Google AI Mode and Gemini](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts/google) | Merchant Center, through Google & YouTube or a direct feed. | Direct checkout requires a US-based store selling to US customers and other stated conditions. Only US buyers see it. Others may discover products and use store checkout; rollout and eligibility apply. |
| [Microsoft Copilot](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts/microsoft) | Shopify Catalog. Discovery remains when direct checkout is off. | Direct checkout requires US sales, Catalog eligibility, terms, and policies. Only US buyers see direct checkout; eligible stores have it on by default. |
| [Meta](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts/meta) | Shopify Catalog, with separate sharing and checkout controls. | Direct checkout requires sales to the United States, Canada, or Mexico plus other stated conditions. Eligible stores have checkout on by default; only buyers in those countries see it. Facebook and Instagram product syncing is required for shoppable ads. |

## Apply the conditions to your store

- **Taiwan-only sales:** the ChatGPT US-sales condition and Google/Copilot direct checkout conditions are unmet. Meta's checkout market condition is also unmet. Check Merchant Center and Catalog sharing separately; do not expand US sales solely on an assumed discovery requirement.
- **Taiwan and US sales:** Selling to US customers meets one requirement. Product eligibility, terms, policies, and other channel requirements still apply.
- **Canada or Mexico sales:** these can meet Meta's checkout market condition. They do not satisfy the other channels' US-sales condition.
- **Taiwan-based store selling to the US:** Google's US store-location rule still excludes direct checkout. Merchant Center discovery is separate. ChatGPT permits stores outside the US; Copilot and Meta have their stated buyer-country limits and other requirements.

## Check other discovery paths

Shopify's [product discovery page](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts/products) says every store serves `/agents.md`. Blocking crawlers affects open-web discovery, while AI channels may still list products by other means Shopify does not control.

The [Agentic settings page](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/agentic-storefronts/agentic-home) says products published to your online store are discoverable on Shop through Catalog. It supplies no Shop buyer-location rule.

Keep a dated record of discovery sources, sharing settings, checkout eligibility, and any ad requirements. Mark Taiwan visibility unverified until observed; one buyer's screen proves no universal reach. On your domain, you can check the served `/agents.md`, public product page access, and checkout for the buyers you serve.

## Common questions

### Does a Taiwan-based store meet Shopify’s ChatGPT eligibility?

Selling to US customers is one requirement, not the whole eligibility check. The Selling on ChatGPT page states that your store must sell to customers in the United States, however, your store can be based outside the United States. A store that sells only within Taiwan does not meet that line. A Taiwan-based store that also sells to United States customers meets that location-related condition; Catalog eligibility, terms and policies still apply. Other discovery methods do not establish eligibility for this Shopify channel. [2]

### Does Google AI Mode and Gemini need a store based in the United States?

For direct checkout, yes. The requirements for selling on Google AI Mode and Gemini with direct checkout state that your store must be based in the United States and you must sell to customers in the United States. Product discovery there is powered by Google Merchant Center rather than by a Shopify Catalog access setting, and the channel is rolling out to eligible stores. [3]

### If I turn AI channels off, do AI crawlers stop reading my store?

No. Blocking AI crawlers at the /robots.txt or network layer affects only open-web discoverability, and when Shopify Catalog access is deactivated your products can still be discovered through web crawling and indexing. Shopify states that it cannot control any other ways in which your products might be listed by AI channels. [7][6]
